OUR MONASTIC LIFE

Daily spiritual life at Saint Brendan's Prayer Retreat Community is patterned after the classic rhythms and disciplines of monastic Christianity. We observe these patterns through The Rule of Saint Brendan's Monastic Retreat Community, a monastic and community mission of the Communion of Corpus Christi.

Life at Saint Brendan's reflects a modified Benedictine model of prayer/worship, study, work, and hospitality while living under the ancient monastic charge of obedience, simplicity, and sexual purity (i.e., chastity or marital fidelity).  This means that while the operation of the farm has its proper place, the most important activity at Saint Brendan's is that of prayer, worship, and the celebration of the Eucharist.

Prayer is observed throughout the day in the "Office of the Hours," set times of prayer that call those on retreat into the presence of God.  At Saint Brendan's Priory House, these times of prayer include Lauds (6:30 AM), Terce (8:00 AM), Sext (Noon), None (3:00 PM), Vespers (5:30 PM) and Compline (8:00 PM).  Eucharist is celebrated daily, Monday through Friday during the Office of Sext, and on Sundays at 8:00 AM.

If you are a communicant member of a sacramental, apostolic Communion and want to learn more about how you can be a part of Saint Brendan's Monastic Retreat Community, contact the Prior or Prioress at saintbrendans@verizon.net.
